Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A DC-DC + Smartshunt 500A

What's Included

Victron Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger

The Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger is a professional adaptive 3-stage charger designed for dual-battery systems in vehicles, caravans, motorhomes and boats.

It allows the vehicle alternator and starter battery to safely and efficiently charge an auxiliary or service battery. This is particularly important in modern vehicles fitted with smart alternators, as well as installations where long cable runs can create voltage drop.

Controlled DC-DC charging is also extremely important with lithium battery systems. Lithium batteries have very low internal resistance and can draw high charging currents if connected directly to an alternator. The Orion-Tr Smart provides controlled charging to help protect both the battery and alternator.

Bluetooth Smart

Use a compatible Bluetooth smartphone or tablet with the VictronConnect app to monitor the charger, adjust settings and install firmware updates when available.

Fully Programmable

Configure the charging algorithm to suit your battery system or select fixed-output mode. The Orion-Tr Smart also includes smart alternator compatibility through its engine-running detection system.

Adaptive 3-Stage Charging

The charger uses a Bulk – Absorption – Float charging algorithm.

For lead acid batteries, absorption time is automatically adjusted depending on the depth of discharge. Shallow discharges receive shorter absorption periods to help prevent overcharging, while deeper discharges receive longer absorption periods to ensure the battery is properly recharged.

Lithium battery charging can also be configured through the VictronConnect app.

Engine Running Detection

The Orion-Tr Smart can be configured to provide charging only while the vehicle engine is running. This helps prevent the starter battery from being discharged when the engine is off. In many installations this eliminates the need for a separate engine-run sensor or connection to the vehicle CAN-bus system.

Remote On/Off

A remote switch or relay can be connected to the charger, allowing the unit to be controlled remotely or activated through an ignition signal where appropriate.

Built for Serious Installations

• Short-circuit protected
• Multiple units can be connected in parallel for higher charging output
• High-temperature protection
• Rated output maintained up to specified operating temperatures
• IP43 protection when installed in the recommended orientation
• Screw terminals for straightforward installation

Victron SmartShunt 500A

The SmartShunt is an all-in-one battery monitor without a separate physical display. Instead, your compatible smartphone or tablet acts as the display using the VictronConnect app.

This allows you to conveniently monitor important battery information including:

• Battery state of charge
• Current battery consumption
• Charging current
• Time remaining
• Historical battery information
• Battery performance data

The SmartShunt is an excellent alternative to a traditional BMV battery monitor, particularly where you want comprehensive battery monitoring without another display mounted on the dashboard or wall.

It also includes a VE.Direct port, allowing connection to compatible Victron GX devices using a VE.Direct cable.

The auxiliary connection can also be configured for supported functions such as monitoring another battery, midpoint monitoring or battery temperature when used with appropriate accessories.
