Over 30 years of SSB battery experience
An established Australian battery brand behind your next start. Super Start Batteries began supplying Australia in the early 1990s and remains 100% Australian owned and operated, with national distribution.
Choose SSB's purpose-built mower starting battery, with Suncoast Batteries here to help you select the right fit and arrange local service. Discover SSB's story.
Is this the right battery for you?
Choose it for compatible 12V equipment requiring a U1R starting battery. Check the mower's minimum CCA/Ah requirements, battery tray, overall height, LUG terminals, positive/negative positions, cable reach and hold-down. A matching mower brand or similar battery code does not guarantee fit.
SSU1R is the right-positive layout; SSU1 is the opposite layout. Compare with the terminal edge facing you and check the actual battery markings. Do not swap the two unless your equipment manufacturer confirms compatibility.
Get the right battery. Text us your mower make and model, existing battery code, and a clear photo of the battery and terminals. We can help cross-check the fit before you order.

Sunshine Coast delivery & fitting help
$9.95 local delivery across the Sunshine Coast, QLD. Installation available by quote.
Suncoast Batteries builds on the local Super Start Batteries business, serving the Sunshine Coast since 1994 with quality batteries.
Will the SSU1R fit my mower or equipment?
Match the 196 × 132 × 159mm case and 185mm total height, LUG terminals, assembly 0 layout and hold-down to your equipment. Check seat or cover clearance and make sure the cables reach without stretching or crossing.
Check polarity before ordering. With the terminal edge facing you, SSU1R has the positive terminal on the right. SSU1 has the opposite layout. Confirm against the battery's + and − markings rather than relying on a photo angle.
This is an engine-starting battery, not a replacement traction battery for an electric mower or a deep-cycle power supply. Your exact equipment model and installation determine the correct battery; do not assume compatibility with every mower, tractor or truck.

Battery care & safe installation
Maintenance-free means no water top-ups, not no care. SSB identifies this model as flooded lead-acid, not AGM. The mower range is filled and heat-sealed at the factory. Keep it upright and secure, protect the terminals, and follow the battery and equipment instructions for handling, charging and installation.
Use charging equipment suitable for this 12V maintenance-free flooded lead-acid battery. SSB lists a 2.8A minimum charge current but does not state a maximum on its current SSU1R page. Confirm the correct charging profile and current limit for the supplied battery before use. The listed 65°C maximum temperature is not a charging-temperature instruction.
For seasonal storage, follow the mower and charger manufacturers' instructions and check charge condition before returning to use. Work in a well-ventilated area away from sparks and flames, and use an appropriate battery recycling service for the old unit.
Manufacturer warranty & support
SSB's current Lawn Mower warranty guide lists:
- Private starting use: 12 months.
- Commercial starting use: 12 months.
SSB provides an equivalent replacement for qualifying manufacturing faults within the applicable period, after assessment and with proof of purchase. Manufacturer cover is for the original end user; transport to and from SSB testing centres is at the customer's cost. Replacement does not restart the original warranty.
Exclusions include incorrect application, flat batteries, normal wear, physical damage and incorrect charging. Your Australian Consumer Law rights apply in addition to the manufacturer warranty and are not limited by these terms.
