Start with the decision that matters
Charger or converter?
A battery charger provides a charging profile. A converter supplies a controlled output for equipment; do not assume every converter is a battery charger.
12 V or 24 V?
Identify input and output requirements separately. A 24 V vehicle supplying a 12 V accessory system needs a different check from a 12-to-12 V setup.

Check the vehicle
Send make, model, year, alternator information and any existing auxiliary-battery equipment. Smart-alternator behaviour and engine-running detection affect the choice and setup.

Check the battery
Provide chemistry, capacity, model and allowed charging current. A larger charger is not automatically better; other chargers may also contribute current.

Check the installation
Ask an installer to assess cable runs, protection, heat, mounting and isolated versus non-isolated requirements. These are part of the system design, not accessories to guess at.

Questions before you buy
Does a DC-DC charger include solar input?
Not necessarily. Only select a combined solar-input model after checking its manual and panel limits. Do not connect panels to a vehicle input by assumption.
Can it charge lithium?
Only with a suitable profile and limits for the exact battery. Confirm the configuration and any battery-management controls.
What should I send for a quote?
Vehicle details, house-battery label, current charger models, intended loads and your suburb. Mention whether you need supply only or installation advice.
